One pair US size 10 (6 mm) hand-knitting needles, for Collar and Front bands

GAUGE
In Stockinette stitch, using USM/ISM KP#4 and MY: 13 sts and 20 R = 4"/10cm
In Stockinette stitch, 13 sts and 20 rows = 4"/10 cm, using larger hand-knitting needles
SPECIAL TECHNIQUE - Hand
M1: Lift strand between needles to left-hand needle and knit strand through the back loop, twisting it to prevent a hole - 1 stitch increased.
STITCHES USED – Machine
Stockinette stitch (St st): Knit side = RS
Seed Stitch (odd number of sts)
- K 1 R. Beg LHS, skip first st, convert EOS across, end skip last st.
- K 1 R. Beg LHS, convert EOS across, beg with first st (alternate sts from previous row), end convert last st.
STITCHES USED – Hand
Stockinette stitch (St st): Knit on RS, purl on WS.
Seed stitch: (odd number sts)
Row 1: K1,* p1, k1; repeat from * across.
Row 2: Knit the purl stitches and purl the knit stitches as they face you.
Repeat Row 2 for Seed st.
NEEDLES REQUIRED: 61 (67, 73)
NOTE
- Instructions are given for working Collar by hand because of the multiple increases worked across the rows while shaping the Collar; Front band and Belt instructions are also given for hand knitting in Seed st.
BACK
- COR. With WY, CO 61 (67, 73) sts. K 6 R. Break off.
- K 1 R with ravel cord. Reset RC=000. COR.
- K to RC=066. COR. Reset RC=000.
- Shape Armholes: BO 4 sts next 2 rows. 53 (59, 65) sts rem. COR. RC=002.
- Dec 1 st each side EOR 3 (4, 5) times. 47 (51, 55) sts rem.
- K to RC=038 (040, 042). COR.
- Shape Shoulders and Neck: Bring 7 (8, 9) ndls, each side, to HP for shoulders.
- BO center 33 (35, 37) sts for neck.
- Remove shoulder sts to WY.
- Lower edging: Bring forward 61 (67, 73) ndls to HP. With RS facing, remove ravel cord and place sts on ndls (or place sts from ravel cord on larger hand-knitting needles).
- K 3 R in Seed st.
- BO.
RIGHT FRONT
- COR. With WY, CO 30 (32, 34) sts. K 6 R. Break off.
- K 1 R with ravel cord. Reset RC=000. COR.
- K to RC=066. COR. Reset RC=000.
- Shape Armhole: BO 4 sts. K 2 R. 26 (28, 30) sts rem. COR. RC=002.
- Dec 1 st at armhole edge EOR 3 (4, 5) times. 23 (24, 25) sts rem.
- K to RC=021 (023, 025). COR.
- At neck edge, dec 1 st ER 16 times. 7 (8, 9) sts rem for shoulder.
- K 1 R. RC=038 (040, 042).
- Remove shoulder sts to WY.
- Lower edging: Rep Steps 10 – 12 of Back.
LEFT FRONT
Work as for right Front, rev all shaping.
SLEEVES
- COR. With WY, CO 49 (53, 57) sts. K 6 R. Break off.
- K 1 R with ravel cord. Reset RC=000. COR.
- K to RC=060 (060, 062). COR. Reset RC=000.
- Shape Cap: BO 4 sts next 2 rows. 41 (45, 49) sts rem.
- Dec 1 st each side EOR11 (12, 14) times. 19 (21, 21) sts rem.
- BO 2 sts next 4 rows. 11 (13, 13) sts rem.
- BO.
- Lower edging: Rep Steps 10 – 12 of Back.
FINISHING
Assembly
- Join Shoulders: Bring forward 7 (8, 9) ndls to HP. With RS's facing each other, hang shoulder sts from Back and Front.
- K 1 R.
- BO. Set in sleeves, matching shaping.
- Sew sleeve and side seams.
Front Bands (Hand knit)
Left (button) Band
- With RS facing, using larger ndls, beg at neck edge, pick up and knit 58 (60, 62) sts. Work 7 R in Seed st, dec 1 st at neck edge ER. 51 (53, 55) sts rem.
- BO in pattern.
Right (buttonhole) Band
- Work as for button band, beg at lower edge of right Front, for 2 R.
- Buttonhole (WS):Dec 1, work 6 sts in Seed st; BO 2 sts for buttonhole, work to end.
- Next R: CO 2 sts over BO sts.
- Complete as for button band.
COLLAR (Hand knit)
With WS of garment (RS of Collar) facing, using larger needles, beginning at left Front neck edge (inside band), pick up and knit 79 (81, 83) sts evenly around neck edge.
Establish Pattern and Shape Collar Rows 1 and 3 (WS): Work 3 sts in Seed st (k1, p1, k1), pm; work in St st (purl) across to last 3 sts; pm, work last 3 sts in Seed st (k1, p1, k1).
Row 2: Cont as est, working 3 sts in Seed st at beg and end of rows.
Row 4: Work to marker; k7 (8, 9), M1, [k9, M1] 6 times, work to end in patt—86 (88, 90) sts.
Rows 5 – 9: Work even in patt (rep Rows 1 and 2).
Row 10: Work to marker; k7 (8, 9), M1, [k10, M1] 6 times, work to end in patt—93 (95, 97) sts.
Rows 11 – 15: Work even in patt.
Row 16: Work to marker; k7 (8, 9), M1, [k11, M1] 6 times, work to end in patt—100 (102, 104) sts.
Rows 17 – 21: Work even in patt.
Row 22: Work to marker; k7 (8, 9), M1, [k12, M1] 6 times, work to end in patt—107(109, 111) sts.
Rows 23 – 25: Change to Seed st; work even for 3 rows. BO all sts loosely in patt. Using yarn needle, weave in all ends.
BELT
Using smaller needles, CO 9 sts.
(RS) Begin Seed st; work even until piece meas 58" from beg, or desired length. BO all sts in patt.
