Bond Buzz, Issue #63
June 28, 2010
Free from Bond America

Welcome to another issue of Bond Buzz!

With everyone sitting on their porches these days – and moving indoors later in the year – I thought, “Why not come up with a pillow idea that would work for both seasons with just the change of a tie-on cover?  And Kathy has just the solution:  Summer eyelet and Winter Fair Isle versions.

This is a super-easy Buzz where you can just use the pillow pattern as your palette and the overlay patterns as your inspiration to create your own.  Try intarsia initials on the overlay for year-round looks, perhaps just changing the colors.  Try stripes in school colors for the overlay for a dorm room.  Or a sparkly overlay for a child’s room that can be changed later when she gets older – and just wants black!

Tips & Techniques . . .

SEASONAL SOLUTIONS PILLOW

Here are the details:

  1. Knit a plain pillow cover, then decorate the top by adding a knitted overlay or swatch sample:
  2. Start with a 14" x 14" pillow form and cover it with a basic Stockinette stitch knitted cover (pattern below).
  3. Next, make a 10" x 10" knitted piece to match your décor or to decorate to the season.
  4. Add it to the front of your pillow and create a beautiful new design!
