Bond Buzz, Issue #2
June 2, 2003
Free from Bond America!

Dear Friends,
Welcome again all Bond Sweater Machine(r), Magicord(r) and Wyr Knittr(tm) owners to the second issue of our "Bond Buzz" e-newsletter!!

Well, we've had quite a busy couple weeks! The fall issue of Ultimate Knitting (www.ultimateknitting.com) will be awesome! We photographed it at a beautiful spot in Vermont, a historic farm and "mansion." Special designs from even more special designers including:
~ the cover design by Nicky Epstein -- a wonderful coat with Nicky's special details on the collar and cuffs;
~ Teva Durham's super-interesting bias-cables pullover;
~ our own Heidi Stepp's linen table runner and napkins;
~ a focus on circular-yoke knitting in the Icelandic style -- yes, for
your Sweater Machine (with accompanying article by Terrie Mays);
~ the cutest kids in their own Icelandic pullovers;
~ and my special friend (yes, from college), Lynda McIntyre, professor of art at the University of Vermont, as beautiful as ever modeling a duo of alpaca vests.

This issue celebrates women (and a couple of guys!) of all ages: from our kids and grand-kids to us, the boomers -- those of us who will always think we're 29 even when we're walking with canes. It celebrates academic and creative achievement, wool from special sheep (with an article on the endangered Navajo Churro sheep and a sweater in the yarn as well), friends (Lynda and Nicky) and family (managing editor, Kathy Pryce's daughter and niece -- we'll let you pick them out after you've received your magazine).

We're also excited about the developments in Bond's education program with a number of the stores. Look for Bond Clubs to be forming at some of the chain stores later in the fall. We can't tell you where yet, but they're a-comin'.

Did you ever want to make your USM or Bond into a "mega-machine?" The instructions for doing this are now available online.

And now for a Rwandan update--finally! The Sweater Machines have left customs and are ready to be used. I'm heading to Africa July 21st to begin training the women to use the
machine. Since most of the country is French-speaking, I'm learning all the Sweater Machine terms in French. The program is evolving into the "Knitting Mission to Rwanda" and at least four dignitaries from USAforUNHCR (http://www.usaforunhcr.org) are also coming. As the mission develops, I'll be sharing my knitting adventures in Rwanda with you.

Are you hunting for the newest in Wool Winders? Check out the online store where we have a new "sideways" winder that makes the most perfect donut-shaped balls. I worked with it over the weekend, and the action is exceptionally smooth with excellent tension.

Until next time, HAPPY KNITTING!
